Objekt:

 Ovale Platte, Typ II (§ 206-208), Enstatit (§ 386-390), 18 x 12,5 x 4,5 mm.

Datierung:

 18. Dyn. (1430-1400) (on the basis of the royal name Amenhotep II).

Herkunft:

Tell Bet Mirsim, Tomb 1, Field Reg. no. 114; the rest of the finds in Tomb 1 were attributed mainly to LB II (possibly starting in late LB I) and to Iron II (see Ben-Arieh 2004: 11-12); the dates of the scarabs and the seals thus fit only part of this range; SB I-EZ II (1540-539).

Sammlung:

Beth-Shemesh, IAA Storehouse, inventory no. 84-1275.

Darstellung:

Face A: Horizontally arranged: on the right is a vertical cartouche (Keel 1995: § 462) with the thronename of Amenhotep II ˓-ḫprw-r˓ (Keel 1995: § 634, 663); cf. Keel 2010: Bet-Mirsim Nr. 67 with parallels; behind the cartouche is a huge z (Keel 1995: § 465); cf. Hall 1913: 169 no. 1706; above its back and tail is the name of the god Jmn-R˓ (Keel 1995: § 642, 643, 644, 645, 646, 647, 648, 649, 650); together, the reading should be „Amenhotep II, son of Amun-Re“; cf. Matmar: Brunton 1948: pl. 48,20; Jaeger 1982: 171 no. 11 with note 623; the disproportionate size of the goose and its central location was explained by Šliwa as stemming from the fact that the goose is also one of the symbols of Amun (cf. Šliwa 1985: 20 no. 7; see also Kayser 1958). Face B: In the center is a vertical cartouche, the entire space of which is occupied by the sign nfr (Keel 1995: § 459); the space around the cartouche is filled with thirteen ring-and-central-dot designs; cf. Matmar, where 15 such circles are arranged around an oval, Brunton 1948: pl. 48, 20 = Jaeger 1982: 325 Ill. 831).
